Historique :	Pourrait être attribué à Antonio Sotti. Dans l'inventaire des biens de la fabrique paroissiale de Chanoz-Châtenay réalisé le 24 mars 1906, 8 tableaux ont été inventoriés (AD 8V25) - 4 tableaux (divers sujets religieux) et 4 tableaux dans le choeur - sans autres précisions, bien que l'église compte aujourd'hui 9 tableaux antérieurs à 1905.

Précision_sur la representation :	La Vierge agenouillée se tient à droite de la scène au dessus de personnages en buste dans des flammes figurant les âmes du Purgatoire ; l'un tend les bras vers elle, une mère tient son enfant par les épaules. De la main gauche, elle montre les âmes et de la main droite, elle pointe le ciel. Le Christ apparaît dans des nuées en haut à gauche et semble se pencher vers les âmes ; du sang s'échappe de son flanc. Têtes d'anges ailés dans les nuées. Fond de ciel jaune en partie haute contrastant avec la partie sombre au centre du tableau.
